
SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 24

Dawson, Hunter, Mitchell, Oliverio, Helmick, Fanning, Anderson,
Bailey, Plymale, Jackson, Sharpe, Ross, Ball, Sprouse, Minear,
Deem, Boley, Redd, Craigo, Love and Tomblin, Mr. President)
Requesting the Governor designate annually the second week of
August as Purple Heart Recognition Week and the seventh day of
August as Purple Heart Day.
Whereas, For more than 200 years, millions of Americans have
answered our nation's call to defend our freedom and our democratic
form of government against all enemies; and
Whereas, The citizens of West Virginia are appreciative of the
great sacrifice these veterans made to our nation; and
Whereas, The dedication of our veterans is indicative of their
strong desire to preserve the priceless American heritage; and
Whereas, Our veterans are proud to publicly declare their
determination to safeguard our freedom against any foreign or
domestic enemy; and
Whereas, Such service has required sacrifice, hardship,
endurance, dedication, bravery, courage and the highest level of
patriotism; and
Whereas, Many brave Americans have received the Purple Heart
in recognition for injuries received or for having paid the supreme
sacrifice in defending this great nation; and
Whereas, The citizens of West Virginia will never forget nor
fail to honor those who have so courageously fought for our
freedom; and
Whereas, Many soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines have
demonstrated these principles on the battlefield, with some being
injured and killed; and
Whereas, The West Virginia Military Order of the Purple Heart,
on behalf of all West Virginia veterans, has urged the Governor and
the Legislature to adopt this resolution; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Governor designate annually the second week of August
as Purple Heart Recognition Week and the seventh day of August as
Purple Heart Day; and, be it
Further Resolved, That copies of this resolution be provided
to the Governor, the president of the Senate, the speaker of the House of Delegates and the Senate and House of Delegates military
committees for consideration of adoption during the seventy-fourth
legislative session; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Governor, the
president of the Senate, the speaker of the House of Delegates and
the Senate and House of Delegates military committees.
